CKC obedience competition is open to all purebred dogs.  At the Novice level dogs are tested on skills such as on and off leash heeling, stays, and the recall. At the more advanced level dogs must perform more difficult exercises such as retrieving dumb-bells over jumps, scent discrimination,  directed jumping and signal exercises. The Grande Prairie Kennel Club offers three obedience trials at their June shows, held at the Clairmont arena.

Junior handlers under the age of 18 may enter Junior handling obedience, where they are marked on their skill as a handler. The Grande Prairie Kennel Club will be offering Junior Handling Obedience at their 2012 shows.
